Basement Improvement Project
Basement remodeling is one of the easiest ways to bring more spaces into your home. It's not an easy project and far from cheap - basement renovation needs waterproofing and appropriate flooring, adequate lighting and ventilation and lots of other details to look into -- but once finished, your basement can give you a multitude of utility and design possibilities. In fat, you'll probably love your finished basement so much, you'll want to have a spare bedroom, a play area and game room, and home cinema in your basement! Besides, a finished basement can lead to an increase in the resale value because of the abundant space beneath your ground floor.
The first consideration is to waterproof your basement. This is the first step before you even begin considering design plans. An appropriate sub floor has to be laid to prevent moisture beneath the floor coverings. Your basement walls to have to be finished to make them waterproof, and prevent condensation. Besides, there are the plumbing pipes that are present in your basement to conceal. These can't be removed, but they can be hidden using screens and partitions. An unsightly pillar in the middle of the basement can even be hidden by constructing a box shelf around it. Plumbing pipes on the ceiling can be concealed by installing a false ceiling.
One you have all lighting, electrical and plumbing fixtures in place, you can begin to look at design options. There is only one necessity for basement finishing -- colors and material you choose should bring in the light and brighten the space. This is not the time to experiment with dull colors. Play safe and stick to yellows, creams and other pastels that expand and brighten a room. Basement lighting works best with ceiling lights that are embedded into the ceiling. They don't cause an obstruction when you walk, and provide sufficient light. If you intend to have a kid's study room or home office here, basement lighting becomes even more important. All in all, you can count on your basement renovation project to be an extremely exciting and creative project that will satisfy your artistic sensibilities.
